How Our Brain Works and Puts Together Our Reality

Did Aristotle get it wrong or what?

Dr. Neal DeGrasse Tyson & NOVA science NOW delve into magic (illusion) and the brain, artificial intelligence, magnetic mind control, and the work of neuroscientist and synesthesia researcher David Eagleman. Can we really believe our own eyes? Will machines one day think like us? Can magnetic wands effectively control brain functions and treat depression?

This is a fascinating and quite entertaining documentary.  The first two minutes show previews.  Enjoy.

  1. I’ve got a question Victoria, which may or may not be relevant. How or why is it that some people, well me really, have a problem concentrating on videos but can read the longest posts in the world?

  2. Excellent video. Thanks for posting it.

  3. Is the “magic wand” (TMS) the thing you’re playing with? That’s very, very cool!

  4. Bookmarked for later.
Greetings and have a pleasant Sunday

  5. Am reading a novella right now which i think you’d love, from a clever, post-singularity neuro perspective: Stones of Significance, by David Brin.

  6. I’m with roughseasinthemed! I can only watch a video for a few minutes at a time, but I can read for hours. For me, I just think videos take too long to get the point across. When it’s written down, I can skim over the “fluff” and get to the meat.

BTW, on that image of the brain … which part of the brain is being affected when I have one of my (many) “senior moments?”

  7. Thank you for posting this video, watching it was a reaffirmation of and continuation of my commitment to loving science and also realizing just how awesome Degrasse is; he’s the best…The BEST!

This watch follows on the heels of another video I was watching about brain science and our understanding of consciousness…here’s the link if you’re interested:

  8. Hi Victoria!
I’ll be back to watch your video. Your depth and breadth of knowledge of the brain blows mine. Seems that I’m in a funk and my brain has decided to take over to create a weird reality. I’m used to being in charge of my feelings and emotions and that doesn’t seem to be the case these days.
Don’t worry though, dear friend. I just know it’s as simple as retraining some thought processes and getting more sleep 🙂

    • Michelle, I’ll try not to worry, but thank you for letting me know. I think I understand, as I am ever retraining and pruning those pesky neural pathways. Getting more sleep is huge as you know. Hope all went well with your exam. I’ll send you an email either tonight or tomorrow.

      Love you girlfriend. ❤

  9. Love all these cool videos you post. There was a ton of really good information in this one. The segment on synesthesia reminded me of when my daughter was young and she used to tell us “1 is a girl, 2 is a girl, 3 is a boy, 4 is a girl …..” – each number had a gender. We all got a good kick out of it, and now I know that she may have had some kind of cross talk going on.

  10. Hey, V: I didn’t know how to contact you directly so I thought I’d send this along for your consideration. Fascinating, eh?
